Growing up, I was always inspired by the doctors and the way they dedicate their lives and time to patients they see every single day. It does not only take knowledge to prescribe the list of medicines, but also, immense care, compassion, empathy, and bravery to handle each patient. As Ibn Sina says, "The art of medicine is in keeping the patient's spirit high, his temperament even, his digestion perfect, and his bowels open." Sina calls for a holistic approach towards Medicine.
This was just an inspiration until I learned the most fascinating facts about the human body and the ways it functions; how microscopic cells are responsible for the creation and normal functioning of a being. The cells in the human body continuously renew themselves; so, the person you are today is different from the one you were ten years ago. The constant regeneration of the human body allows it to recover and heal from diseases. This extraordinary fact about the inspiring nature of the human body led me to pursue Medicine. I am grateful that my early years of education under the AKU-EB system allowed me to uncover subjects such as Biology and Chemistry. AKU-EB was always there to clarify my concepts providing me with additional resources to learn, relearn and question. I was engaged in research, critical thinking and inquiry enabling me to excel at the university level. Above all, I recall the AKU-EB ethical values that taught me about compassion, integrity, and commitment – values that are fundamental to anyone pursuing a medical career. It only shows how important it is to have a strong foundation to pursue your passion as your profession. Although I still have time to choose which field of Medicine I wish to pursue, I aspire to make a meaningful impact in the field of medicine. The academic life of a potential doctor is a long journey, and I am eagerly looking forward to discovering the best possible way to heal a patient from pain. My advice to all students is that they should embrace the journey of learning and growth. They lose sight of the profound impact you can have on the lives of people you wish to serve.
